Aakash Chopra Asks Delhi Capitals to Give Prithvi Shaw a Game Against Rajasthan

Aakash Chopra says struggling Delhi Capitals should pick Prithvi Shaw against Rajasthan Royals on 17 May, and also offers advice on Rajasthan’s bowling.

Aakash Chopra has called on Delhi Capitals to pick Prithvi Shaw for their important home match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, 17 May. Shaw has not played a single game for the franchise this season.

Delhi’s position

Axar Patel’s side have won only five of their first 12 matches and are hanging on in the playoff race. Chopra noted how heavily the batting depends on KL Rahul, saying there is a huge gap between Rahul and the rest of the line-up. He questioned why Shaw had not even been named in the Impact Player list.

The commentator also had concerns about the bowling. Despite overseas options such as Mitchell Starc and Lungi Ngidi, he felt no bowler in the squad had taken wickets consistently this season.

Chopra accepted that Delhi remain mathematically alive but suggested they should play for pride and finish strongly. He added that reaching 14 points could still keep them in contention.

Advice for Rajasthan

Chopra also had a suggestion for the opposition. He felt Rajasthan Royals should leave out Dasun Shanaka and bring in a specialist overseas fast bowler, naming Nandre Burger, Adam Milne and Kwena Maphaka as possibilities. His argument was that the side needs a proper wicket-taking option in the XI.
