JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi: Ground Guide

A guide to the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, MS Dhoni’s home ground and venue of Rohit Sharma’s 212 and Pujara’s 202.

Overview

The JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi is run by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association. It opened in 2013 and has since become the leading venue in the state, which is also the home region of former India captain MS Dhoni. A stand at the ground has been named in his honour.

It is the home of the Jharkhand team in domestic cricket.

Pitch and conditions

The surfaces here have tended to be slow and low and gradually deteriorate, so spinners often play a major part in Test matches. Batters who are patient can score heavily early on, but the ball tends to keep low later. The ground is also known for its good facilities and for its large stands.

Memorable matches

Ranchi staged its first Test in March 2017, when Cheteshwar Pujara made 202 and Wriddhiman Saha 117 in a drawn match against Australia. In October 2019 India beat South Africa here by an innings and 202 runs, with Rohit Sharma scoring 212 in his first Test series as an opener.

In February 2024 the ground hosted a Test against England, which India won by five wickets.

Development of cricket in Jharkhand

The stadium has helped raise the profile of the sport in the state, giving local players a world-class setting. It also hosts limited-overs internationals and domestic fixtures as the calendar allows.
