India completed a 3-0 sweep of Zimbabwe in the first bilateral women’s series between the two countries, winning the third one-day international at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara by eight wickets on Wednesday 28 October. Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma took five for 39 and was named player of the match as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 131, and India reached their target in 17 overs.
Zimbabwe undone by spin
Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat. Sayali Satghare and Kranti Gaud took the first two wickets with only 12 runs on the board, and Zimbabwe were 25 for three soon after. Opener Modester Mupachikwa made 37 from 48 balls and captain Josephine Nkomo 35 from 67, the only two scores above 20. From 95 for five, Zimbabwe lost their last five wickets for 36 runs and were all out in 39.5 overs.
Vaishnavi bowled her full ten overs and removed Mupachikwa, who was stumped by Yastika Bhatia, as well as Beloved Biza, Chiedza Dhururu, Michelle Mavunga and Nyasha Gwanzura. Satghare finished with two for 11 from six overs and Gaud with two for 23 from seven.
Rawal and Shafali finish it quickly
India lost Bhatia to the first ball of the chase, caught off Nomvelo Sibanda, and Harleen Deol went for 19 with the score on 59. Pratika Rawal (59 not out from 56 balls) and Shafali Verma (51 not out from 26) then completed the win with 33 overs to spare, each hitting three sixes.
Series in context
India won the first match of the series by nine wickets and the second by 121 runs, having already beaten Zimbabwe 3-0 in the T20I series in Raipur earlier in October. Smriti Mandhana captained India in the ODI series, with Deepti Sharma as vice-captain. Harmanpreet Kaur played in the final match.
The three ODIs counted towards the ICC Women's Championship. Zimbabwe came to India after their first win in that competition, a four-wicket victory over West Indies at Harare Sports Club on 27 September, but could not add to it in Vadodara.
