England beat Sri Lanka by 55 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday 29 October, ending their Pakistan ODI Tri-Series campaign with a win. The result had no bearing on the final, which Pakistan and Sri Lanka contested two days later.
Duckett leads a big total
Ben Duckett scored 167 from 132 balls, the centrepiece of an England innings that passed 380 for five. Tom Banton added a half-century, and Harry Brook, Will Jacks, Jordan Cox and Sam Curran also contributed in the later overs.
Rathnayake’s hundred is not enough
Sri Lanka were chasing more than 380 and were bowled out for 331. Pavan Rathnayake played the most notable innings for the losing side, scoring 118 from 77 balls. Liam Dawson took four wickets in his ten overs, including those of Dasun Shanaka and Rathnayake. Asitha Fernando took two wickets for Sri Lanka, while Eshan Malinga conceded 101 runs in his ten overs and took one wicket.
The tri-series picture
England had already been eliminated before this game. They finished the round-robin stage with one win. Pakistan topped the table with three wins and Sri Lanka took the second place in the final with two. Pakistan won that final in Lahore on 31 October, chasing a target in excess of 320.
England’s next white-ball assignment is a tour of Australia under Harry Brook, for which the squads have already been named.
