CSK Reportedly Stick With Stephen Fleming as Head Coach After Poor IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings have reportedly decided to retain Stephen Fleming as head coach following another disappointing IPL season, preferring continuity to a major overhaul.

A long and successful tenure

Fleming played for CSK in the inaugural 2008 season and became head coach in 2009. He is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in IPL history, with five titles for the franchise during his time in charge.

A recent slump

Results have slipped lately. CSK won the title in 2021 and 2023, but have missed the playoffs in five of the last seven seasons, including the last three. In 2025 they finished bottom of the table for the first time in their history.

In IPL 2026 they began slowly, showed some promise, then lost momentum and ended eighth with six wins from 14 games. That prompted calls from some fans and analysts for a change at the top.

Texas Super Kings also struggling

Fleming’s influence extends to Major League Cricket, where his Texas Super Kings are also having a poor 2026. After a win over the Seattle Orcas, they lost to the San Francisco Unicorns and MI New York, and sit second from bottom.

They face the Unicorns again on June 25 and will be looking to avoid a third defeat in a row.
