Australia have won the tournament six times in this period, including a run of three in a row in 1999, 2003 and 2007. West Indies and India have won two each, while Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England have each won once.
Notable finals
The 2019 final at Lord’s between England and New Zealand was tied after 50 overs and again after a Super Over, and England were declared winners on the boundary count. In 2011 India became the first host nation to win the tournament on home soil, and Australia won on home soil in 2015.
Early editions
The first three tournaments, in 1975, 1979 and 1983, were all played in England and consisted of 60 overs per side.
