LSG Admit IPL 2026 Failure as Moody Signals Leadership Review

Lucknow Super Giants’ Tom Moody says the franchise will reflect on a poor IPL 2026, with leadership under review and Rishabh Pant’s form in focus.

Lucknow Super Giants have admitted their IPL 2026 season fell well short, and their Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, has indicated that the leadership and structure of the team will be examined closely.

Moody’s assessment

Speaking at the post-match press conference after the defeat, Moody said it had been a difficult season and that the franchise would take its time to assess every aspect. He accepted that LSG had not met the standards they set for themselves, and that the question of leadership would receive very serious consideration.

He also suggested that a reset may be needed after a second consecutive underwhelming year, saying decisions would be made carefully in every department. Moody stressed that responsibility lies with everyone at the franchise and that this was not the time to blame any single person.

Pressure on Pant

Captain Rishabh Pant has faced scrutiny after a tough campaign with the bat. He managed 312 runs at a strike rate of 138.05 in IPL 2026, having been signed for a record INR 27 crore.

Third straight miss

LSG have now failed to reach the playoffs for the third season in a row, which raises serious questions about the direction of the franchise going forward.
