Mumbai Indians host Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in the 41st match of IPL 2026 on Wednesday, 29 April. For Hardik Pandya’s side it is a must-win occasion: after a heavy 103-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings, another loss would effectively end their hopes of moving forward.
Rohit Sharma’s return is a lift for the batting, with the opener expected to partner Quinton de Kock. The middle order faltered last time, so Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma will need to deliver, with Pandya, Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford expected to provide late acceleration. The bowling has been a concern this season, and Jasprit Bumrah has not been at his best; Mumbai will want early wickets from him and Pandya, with AM Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner tasked with controlling the middle overs.
Sunrisers, under Pat Cummins, are in a confident place. A five-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals took them to third in the standings, and Cummins is keen to improve the side’s record against Mumbai. Abhishek Sharma, the current Orange Cap holder, and Travis Head open the batting, with Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen providing consistency in the middle order alongside Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Sahil Arora and Aniket Verma adding hitting power.
The Hyderabad bowling has had its struggles, although Cummins gave away fewer than seven an over in the last match and will lead alongside Praful Hinge, with Sakib Hussain, Eshan Malinga, Shivang Kumar and Reddy in support. With their momentum and the strength of their top order, our preview leans towards Sunrisers.
